Facile Synthesis, Spectral Investigations and Biocidal Studies of Ruthenium (Ii) Schiff Base Complex

Abstract


Diamagnetic ruthenium (II) complex of the type [RuCl(CO)(PPh3)(L)] (where, L = chelating monobasic tridentate Schiff base ligand) were synthesized from the reactions of ligands derived by condensing o-aminobenzoic acid with Knovenegal condensate of β-ketoester with ruthenium metal precursor [RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)3]. Elemental analyses, spectral (FT-IR, 1H, 31P-NMR and UV–Vis) studies of the new synthesized complex suggest the presence of an octahedral environment around the Ru (II) ion. All the metal complex exhibit characteristic MLCT absorption bands in the visible region. From electrochemical data it was revealed that the process is at best quasi-reversible.  This complex was also subjected to find out their antibacterial activity and exhibits greater activity than the respective standards.
